The three main themes I identified while analyzing USA Today articles show the disadvantage, mistreatment, unfairness, and hope that comes with being a minority head coach in the National Football League. With the implementation of the Rooney Rule in 2002, the NFL saw an increase in the number of hirings of minorities.
With these experiences and voices in mind, it is clear that a shift occurred in the way media portrayed African-American and other minority coaches in the NFL.
