Though this project has entailed examining an equitable unit of analysis between the two time periods, the movie trailers were not unaffected by the trends of filmmaking. The earlier trailers were on average shorter and less likely to have a narrator. Still, there were plenty of visual and thematic elements to analyze. The trailers painted a story that found the years before the Satanic Panic to have more elements of sexuality and less of religion, whereas a more anthropomorphized Satan took over the screen increasingly as time went on. In the years after the Satanic Panic, we see more religious imagery both in overall themes and the images and dialogue used.
