The game of football started at the collegiate level in 1869 with a game between Rutgers and Princeton. The game made such strides that eventually it would form into a professional sports lead. The National Football League was founded way back in 1920 when players had leather helmets with no face masks. The NFL has made many advancements throughout its existence in the way of padding and helmets to keep their players safe. Despite these changes the NFL was hit with a $765 million lawsuit in 2012 over concussion related injuries among retired NFL players.
Injuries in the NFL can come in many different ways due to the violent nature of the sport. Some studies say things like being tackled in the NFL is the equivalent of getting hit by a low speed car but none the less injuries can happen at any time and any where during a football game.
Here is Damar Hamlin suffering a never before seen injury in the NFL. Damar was in critical condition and sent to the hospital after medical staff attempted CPR on the field. Hamlin has thankfully since then made a full recovery and has had talks about returning to football for some reason. This injury was nationwide news and incredibly shocking as he almost dropped dead on the field on national television.
