Tiffany Gonzalez ’24, a double major in Sociology and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, examined the effect of musician gender on representations of the ‘American Dream’ in US rap music for her senior capstone project. Her findings indicated that while both expressed the importance of wealth and living lavishly, female artists exhibited more confidence in themselves and mentioned the importance of supporting and mentoring one another. Male artists, on the other hand, tended to focus on their personal hardships and self-recognition.
